James Creese served as president of Drexel University from 1945 to 1963. Born in Leedsdale, Pa., in 1896, he earned degrees from Princeton University and served in army during the First World War before becoming general secretary of the American-Scandinavian Foundation. Drexel's eighth president, William Walsh Hagerty, served from 1963 to 1984. Born in Holyoke, Minnesota, in 1916, Dr. Hagerty was educated as an engineer at the universities of Minnesota and Michigan. Before coming to Drexel, he was dean of the college of engineering at the University of Texas.
